Gift Guide for Your Bookish Friend

The holidays are rolling around, and it’s time to start thinking about presents. Luckily, we’ve got you covered on a gift for the reader in your life. Here is a list of ideas that aren’t just a book.

A sturdy bookmark

Bookmarks made of metal are much more durable than paper ones, meaning they can endure the wear and tear of multiple books. They are also an eco-friendly option since they will not need to be replaced as frequently.

Corner bookmarks like these can be handmade, which adds a personal touch to the gift. Unlike standard bookmarks, these snugly wrap around the corner of a page and won’t fall out.

Personal embosser

Especially for the friend who is always loaning out books and not getting them returned. This personal embosser is the book collector’s dream! You’re basically gifting them their own library. Another great option is a stamp!

Penguin Clothbound Classics

Penguin Random House makes classic novels into visually stunning, statement pieces. These books elevate a bookshelf and make a great conversation piece! Start your friend’s collection today by purchasing them a book (or three).

Some titles include Little Women, Crime and Punishment, and Moby Dick. I have been getting my sister these books for Christmas every year, since it is her dream to own all of them.

A tote bag (for carrying books)

This tote that says “There’s always room for one more book” is the perfect gift for your friend who can’t say no to a new book. So, the next time someone asks them if they really need another book, they can talk to the tote.

Made of cotton with thick, comfortable straps, this tote is great for carrying heavy books and snacks, and lip products… really anything you need!

Reading merch

What avid reader wouldn’t want a shirt, hat, or socks that show off how much they love reading? This brand has “genre” t-shirts and quirky shorts that say “Book Worm” on the back. Perfect for lounging or wearing out!

My personal favourite are the “Book Baddie” socks because, duh.

Candles that smell like books

No, not like paper, like book characters! There are a variety of shops that sell candles that smell like your favourite fictional world or character.

SMELLSLIKEBOOKS is an Etsy shop that sells candles and fragrances. Aarka Origins is an Etsy shop that sells a TON of different Harry Potter Candles. My personal favourite for themed candles is Homesick Candles. They have Harry Potter, DC Comics, and more.

Book nooks

These are the cutest additions to any bookshelf. They are mini dioramas, often inspired by books, that create a magical little scene within your bookshelf. The scenes are anything from a lush forest to a bustling city, Harry Potter to The Lord of the Rings.

They can be DIY or prebuilt. The options are pretty much endless! If you’re the crafty friend, this gift has a great personal touch. You get the joy of building it, and they get the joy of seeing it on their bookshelf every day!
